“ Great food Great service Been there twice and everything is so so good. Make reservations! ”
“ We've been in 3 different times this fall and every time we have great service and tasty food. The menu has a variety of different dishes. I encourage you to go on pasta night! Our kids enjoyed it and I loved their mock tail options. ”
“ I waited too long to try this place! The food was amazing. The short rib sandwich is big enough for 2 people. I got the cheesy hash brown casserole for the side. This most definitely has homemade cream of mushroom soup instead of canned soup. I cannot wait to go back to try more of the menu. The service was great. The ambiance was a woodsy, cabin feel. ”
“ Amazing ambiance and feel. Comfortable seats. Food was on point - tried the smoked fish spread, cobb salad. My husband had the shrimp cocktail & ceviche. Excellent wine selection and cocktail menu. Espresso martini was amazing along with the standard cup of coffee! Highly recommend for BLUNCH. ”
“ Solid spot if you are a fan of oysters, walleye or any other Northwoods favorite recipe. The food and service were both good. Who doesn't love a nice Draft Hamms nice in a while. It was well worth the drive from ankeny. ”
“ Went to Guesthouse Tavern for a birthday celebration. The restaurant has a cozy cabin feel. Started with the jumbo shrimp cocktail which were very tasty and definitely jumbo! Next up was the lobster roll and fries where you can get double meat if desired. I ordered regular meat which was a good portion. To finish the meal we had a s'more dessert which was an experience in itself and delicious besides. ”
“ Stopped by for a birthday dinner on a Saturday evening. We did have reservations which I'd highly recommend if you're going to stop in! We were seated after just a few minutes while they had our table prepared. The first thing you notice is the acoustics. Unfortunately it is very loud like a crowded bar or taproom but the menu is designed as an upscale/elevated supper club. The acoustics didn't match the vibe for me but it could just be my preference! Our waitress was great and very personable but clearly very busy For appetizers we ordered a dozen raw oysters and the chicken fried oyster mushrooms. The oysters I was told had a nice flavor and were enjoyed. The horseradish that came with was a fan favorite. The chicken fried oyster mushrooms were very crispy and seasoned well. A fun take on a classic! For my entree I ordered the Guesthouse Steak medium rare. It came out more on the rare side but I didn't mind. It was tasty! The sauce was subtle and rich. I ordered the Cauliflower Gratin as my side which had a nice roasted crunch and had a creamy cheese flavor to pair with it. My partner ordered the Beef Stroganoff which we both agreed was the star dish between the two. So tender and rich flavor. I'd go back specifically for that dish! ”
“ This place has an oddly specific 1960s-supper-club-in-the-hinterlands-of-Wisconsin vibe. (Hamm's tall boys, anyone?) And the old-school menu is an enticing mix of oysters, seafood, and steaks. I mean, when was the last time you ever saw a place serve a legit trout almondine?! Our sever Katie was quick with appetizer suggestions, including the cast iron skillet laden with tater tots. (Yes, gourmet comfort food for the win!) And the cheese curds (natch!) with peppers were apparently mandatory. The crab-stuffed shrimp de Jonghe was simply spectacular, but I thought the crab-shrimp ratio was a little heavy on the crab. Regardless, the creamy sherry sauce was a flavorful find. And if you don't save room for some of their decadent side dishes, you're not living your best life. Tonight's campfire pie was a rhubarb-raspberry combo--and I nearly died at its tart-astic taste. Apparently, they rotate pies in and out of the mix--each served in a small, scalding-hot, cast-iron mini-skillet. The crust was flaky and the fillings were plentiful. This place is officially my new jam when I visit Des Moines. Full stop. ”
“ We made reservations for 6 people at 6 PM and were promptly seated. Nice and open restaurant. Decor is like a summer cabin vibe. Nice selection of raw bar items, appetizers, and dinner items. Drink menu - had some nice variety, but didn't get to try any. The first time I had char grilled oysters was in New Orleans, and ever since then, I've been trying to find them in DSM. This version is the closest I can find without being in New Orleans. As of March 2024, the price was $47.99. Lobster roll and fries - Nice lightly buttered lobster chunks with lobster butter with lobster chunks within. In my opinion, it's one of the better ones in the DSM area. I would definitely get it again. Note: One guest ordered fries with salt and vinegar, and it was delicious! The price was $27.99. Fried walleye with twice baked potato - I did not eat, but my guest enjoyed it. Nice and crispy and not too salty. The price was $25.99. FYI - they do have a 3% service charge on the receipt -- which if you pay by cash, it is taken off. ”
